He and his brothers were born in Alto Mare, Johto, later moving to Striaton City, Unova when he was a young teen.

Cilan has a very work-heavy life, not only running a restaurant, but being gym leader and a Pokémon connoisseur on top of it. Often, he has trouble trying to balance it all.

Cilan is polite and a little shy, but he's worked hard with gaining more confidence over the years.

In this timeline, Cilan, Chili and Cress are still the gym leaders of Striaton City. This timeline also merges with events of the anime. Cilan traveled with Ash and Iris and still maintains his friendships with them.

Portrayal also includes a twist on the Shadow Triad theory, in that when Cilan and his brothers were 18, they disguised themselves as the Shadow Triad in an attempt to infiltrate Team Plasma and give tips to the Unova League on their plans. It's not relevant to Cilan at his current age but he may bring it up.

Portrayal is a frankenstein mix of game, anime, and manga portrayals and my own deranged headcanons and fanlore.

Cilan as a muse of mine has gone through many different AUs and reboots over the past 3 years I've written him, whether it be axing off storylines I wrote with ex-friends, or simply just thinking something I'd written was too dark for the kind of character he is. Many core aspects of my portrayal of him have remained consistent, though, and he is a muse that is VERY dear to my heart.

Very patient. It's rare that Cilan loses his temper, or raises his voice at someone in anger. You have to hit him somewhere very personal to make him truly angry with you.

Though it is rare when Cilan gets angry, those who have seen him lose temper have remarked that he's SUPER scary when he's mad.

Though he can be shy, Cilan's generally pretty friendly and hospitable. He's relied on his brothers a lot to speak for him, but is working on speaking for himself more and gaining more independence and confidence.

Cilan has been making an effort in recent years to have more of a sense of humor and playfully mess around with his friends, and see the comedy in things more often, as it was often difficult for him as a kid.

He’s autistic, and he has a lot of things he can talk at length about, but his biggest special interests are cooking, trains, and theatre!

He’s very idealistic and romantic, and falls in love very easily. Ironically though, he’s very oblivious to flirting and other romantic advances on himself.

He's very polite and well-spoken, though he may occasionally fumble on words. He is very formal with those he doesn't know, and makes heavy use of honorifics.

Mostly avoids using swear words, but one or two may slip if he's caught off guard or stressed out.

He'll often discuss things in relation to their taste, even if said topic at hand isn't necessarily a food. He does this to help familiarize himself with the environment and people around him - by relating his thoughts on said things to taste, something he understands very well.

Cilan stutters frequently, a problem he's had since he was a child. His stuttering is most prominent when he's anxious or when he's tired.

Insecure, will often apologize for small mistakes and misunderstandings. He panics relatively easily. He tends to often be out of the loop.

Although he’s a pretty fantastic cook, Cilan can be very clumsy in the kitchen. He burns/hurts himself on accident while cooking pretty often.

He's a bit physically weak. He has back and joint problems, and he also has a bit of a weak immune system and gets sick pretty easily. He can't fight off viruses very well.

Cilan is cowardly and scares incredibly easily. He has a huge fear of the paranormal. He avoids any and all confrontation, and will sometimes bend over backwards to keep others in good spirits.

Gullible and naive, he assumes the best out of everyone. It takes a lot to make him genuinely hate a person. Even if he has suspicions about a person or finds them genuinely despicable, he'll still have hope deep down that they've got a good heart and can improve.

A big workaholic. He works himself to exhaustion with his jobs frequently, and rarely gives himself room for breaks.

He's visually impaired and wears glasses most of the time.

He's afraid of Purrloins because he'd gotten attacked by one as a child, and the injuries were bad enough he had to be taken to the hospital. Purrloins also just don't seem to like him in general, he's always getting hissed at by them.

Has a few burn scars on his arms from accidents while cooking in the past.

Cilan's favorite things to cook are pastries, desserts, and breakfast foods. He also has a big sweet tooth, and loves to eat sweet foods.

Has a terrible sleep routine. Either sleeps too much or sleeps too little. It's not uncommon for him to wake up at odd hours in the day. Along with this, he's also a notoriously heavy sleeper, and needs a LOT of alarms going off to wake him up in the morning.

He has a collection of many different train models, a lot of which he's bought from other regions.

Has a habit of biting on certain objects or his fingers - something he often does when he's anxious. A lot of his most used pens and pencils for work are covered in bite marks. His brothers have gotten him stim toys to help quell this habit.

He's related to Jasmine from Pokemon Gold and Silver. He and his brothers are her cousins on their father's side. When Cilan was younger, he caught a Ferroseed as a gift for Jasmine.

He and his brothers are also related to Brassius from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, he's their uncle on their mother's side.

Has musical talent, being a good singer, as well as playing the violin. He's rather shy about this, and only practices with music at home, around his brothers or Pokemon.

He's bilingual, and can speak fluently in Alto Marian (Italian), English, and Kalosian (French).

He has big, messy handwriting. Sometimes he's the only one that can understand things that he's written.

Outside of work, Cilan dresses very old-fashioned - a lot like a grandpa.

Has a fondness for bug-type Pokemon. They're a second favorite to his signature grass-types.

He loves to listen to old music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

He keeps all of his Pokemon in Luxury Balls.

Enjoys gardening, and tends to gardens outside the restaurant with the help of his Pokemon.

He maintains long-distance friendships with a lot of Grass-type trainers from other regions. He's known Erika and Gardenia in particular for a while.

He can't handle caffeinated drinks like coffee. They make him way too hyper and he's never able to settle down. He prefers to drink tea or hot chocolate to wake himself up in the morning.

Very early morning riser. Cilan likes the atmosphere the world has before sunrise, and often makes an effort to wake up very early from 3 to 5 am, though sleeping in very late is also very common for him.

As children, Cilan and his brothers had to shoulder a lot of responsibility early on due to their parents, without exactly intending to, kind of forcing it on them. Cilan and his brothers' parents were neglectful when they were children and often only took care of "important" things regarding them, focusing more on the family business.
